Listening comprehension

A method for hearing everyday speech

01

Listen for the familiar first

Start with short audio you can replay. Note the words and phrases you already recognise, then build around them rather than chasing every sound.

02

Use context to fill gaps

Before you check a transcript, guess the topic from the setting and speakers. Context narrows meaning and makes unclear words easier to place.

03

Shadow and repeat

Repeat each short phrase aloud with the same rhythm and intonation. Speaking what you hear trains your ear for connected speech.

04

Review and return

Revisit the same clip after a few days. Tracking what became clearer shows progress and tells you which material to practise next.
